Questions & Answers.
You have an emergency, and probably a question or two. Below is the most common questions we’ve received about emergencies.
Help! I am having an extreme toothache, what can I take until I am seen in your office?
Great question! The best pain reliever you can take is alternating between Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. You will want to take 400 mg of Ibuprofen, wait 4-6 hours then take 325 mg Acetaminophen. Wait another 4-6 hours and take another dose of Ibuprofen. Continue this regime as needed until you are able to see us!
I think I have an infection, there may be some swelling. Should I take the antibiotics I have leftover from my last dental visit?
Great question! Unfortunately, it is not in your best interest to take those old antibiotics. Each infection is different and your previous antibiotics may not have any effect on your current situation. Give us a call so we can see you and get this treated before it becomes far more serious threatening.
Part of my tooth broke off, but it does not hurt right now. Am I ok to wait until it starts to bother me?
It is in your best interest to give us a call as soon as that happens so we can see you. The longer you wait the more expensive treatment can be or worst case, the tooth may not be able to be saved.
My crown/veneer just came off, what can I do until I see someone to help me?
First you want to look in the crown/veneer. If there is some food debris, take a tooth brush and gently clean as much of the debris out of there. If you feel comfortable, get in front of the mirror and try to gently place the crown/veneer back on the tooth. If it is too tight, do not force it down. Give us a call as soon as possible so we can see you and fix the issue!
